In Finnish, SUMU means fog, and it is something you encounter often in the archipelago and across the Baltic Sea.
We like the name because, just like fog, the sea and shipping can be unpredictable. You can’t always see far ahead, but you still need to keep your course and stay calm. Arriving safely is what we always do.
Some sailors joke that fog is just nature’s way of reminding us to sometimes slow down and have more coffee, and we think that’s not a bad philosophy for business either.
SUMU Logistics was founded with a clear purpose
To provide smart, reliable and sustainable maritime solutions in a changing market. Based in Finland, we combine deep knowledge of the Nordic and Baltic region with an international outlook, serving clients across shipping, maritime logistics and project support.
The sea has always represented safety, adventure and inspiration to us. We also believe it comes with a responsibility to operate thoughtfully and with respect for the environment. With decades of combined experience in international shipping and a strong connection to the maritime industry, we aim to contribute to Finland’s maritime cluster and create long-term value together with our clients and partners.
Today, our focus is on commercial and operational support across shipping, ports and maritime projects. We provide independent shipbroking and vessel chartering across selected segments, alongside sale and purchase, valuations and asset advisory. Working closely with port operators, vessel owners and local stakeholders, we help coordinate practical commercial arrangements that reduce complexity and improve efficiency.
Looking ahead, Sumu Logistics aims to strengthen maritime logistics and project support in the Nordic and Baltic region through pragmatic, market-led solutions. Our approach is built on reliability, commercial understanding and a measured view of how shipping and maritime services can support future industrial and energy projects while remaining operationally and commercially sound. At the same time, we believe thoughtful use of new technology and data-driven tools will play an increasingly important role in building smarter and more responsive maritime services.
